Shining Surface, curated by Cloe Piccoli, Palazzo dell’Arengario, Milano, April 9th-14th 2013
This is an installation designed and implemented by Park Associati for the Sala Fontana, the space hosting the big neon work by Lucio Fontana in the Museo del Novecento. The installation has been realized for the eighth edition of Inside Art, the Saporiti Italia laboratory dedicated to the research of furnishing objects for large spaces of art and architecture. Shining Surface is a large iridescent surface, a structure, a horizontal wall placed on the ground, reflecting the atmosphere of the Sala Fontana from a new point of view.

"The project was chosen for its ability to combine the themes of sustainability, and of conservative reuse but attentive to the needs of rationalization of the interior spaces and the external façade; to emphasize the lines of the building by lightening the fixtures by diversifying the two different uses of the building (offices and hotels); to dialogue with the complex system of public spaces throughout the Porta Nuova area, giving emphasis to the ground's attack on the volume; to create a sophisticated and elegant project that speaks softly without shouting, measured on the real needs of the client, on the basis of a fair economic commitment," Manfredi Catella, Hines Italia CEO.

What is the relationship between architecture and schenography? And what are the useful scenographic elements in designing an architecture linked to a brand? Park Associati’s lecture deals with a story about the details that link the project to the representativeness of the brand.

Economic crises force everyone to change perspective, thinking of progress in a different way and making more informed use of resources and technology. Even the world of architecture is forced to review the attitude towards urban issues of housing dispersion. The city seems then to regenerate itself, growing in on itself, favoring operations of densification and thinning, of transformation of existing artifacts, of reuse and conversion of infrastructures: urban strategies for a (almost) zero land consumption.
