La Forêt
Contemporary design meets alpine heritage
La Forêt interior design project challenges conventional interpretations of mountain architecture, transforming a collection of 18 residences in Andermatt Reuss into a sophisticated dialogue between tradition and innovation. Following the success of La Vetta, this marks the studio's second collaboration with Andermatt Swiss Alps, further developing their shared vision for contemporary mountain living. Working in harmony with Brandenberger Kloter's architectural vision, Park has crafted spaces that redefine the essence of Alpine living through material exploration and spatial poetry. The project emerges from a profound understanding of Alpine architectural heritage, yet decisively steps away from rustic stereotypes. "We wanted to honor the authenticity of mountain architecture while introducing a contemporary language that is alive, vibrant, and deeply connected to its surroundings," explains Davide Viganò, Project Director and Associate at Park. " Rather than simply juxtaposing modernity with tradition, the design embraces a reinterpretation where heritage elements are infused with new energy and expressive potential.” At the heart of the design lies a masterful play of materials. Diamond-patterned oak wood cladding, inspired by traditional Alpine craftsmanship, creates vibrant textures across surfaces, bringing movement and depth to the interiors. This approach transforms materials from simple decorative elements into dynamic architectural components that shape the perception of space. Ceilings and beams, treated in tones rooted in Alpine tradition, introduce an additional layer of warmth and complexity, reinforcing the project’s deep connection to its context. The penthouse spaces showcase the studio's ability to orchestrate complex spatial narratives. Double-height volumes generate immersive, sculptural interiors, while carefully curated furnishings and custom-designed elements add layers of contrast and material richness. Private wellness areas extend the language of the interiors, demonstrating how contemporary luxury can be expressed through refined spatial compositions and tactile experiences.
The material palette offers two distinct interpretations of Alpine aesthetics. 'Vibrant Forest' draws from the rich chromatic variations of mountain vegetation, while 'Winter Grey' captures the subtle beauty of snow-covered landscapes. These palettes create an expressive foundation where textures, colors, and light interact dynamically, amplifying the project's sense of place. "The challenge was to create spaces that feel both timeless and contemporary," notes Viganò " This was achieved through careful attention to proportions, materials, and the quality of light—elements that go beyond stylistic trends and instead engage with deeper architectural principles. The result is an environment that is not only sophisticated but also welcoming, layered, and playful in its reinterpretation of tradition." Shared spaces extend the design narrative through a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor experiences. The spa complex and fitness areas maintain the project's material identity while introducing elements that blur boundaries between built and natural environments. An outdoor relaxation area becomes an architectural space in its own right, framed by the stunning Alpine setting. The success of La Forêt lies in its ability to create a new architectural narrative for mountain living – one that respects tradition while confidently expressing contemporary design values. Through thoughtful material choices, sophisticated spatial arrangements, and a reinterpretation of Alpine identity, Park has created spaces that feel both grounded in their context and forward-looking in their execution.
