Park Associati presents The Grey Catalogue, a photographic exhibition by Barbara Rossi, featuring works from the namesake project that investigates Shanghai’s disappearing Lilong neighborhoods and their iconic Shikumen architecture. The project documents these once-bustling districts, now emptied, walled up, and suspended in a grey limbo—a neutral veil that paradoxically both erases and preserves memory.
The exhibition explores grey as a color of loss, transition, and resistance, offering an archive of images that invite reflection on the political, historical, and emotional weight of urban transformations.
On the occasion of the opening, a talk will be held to discuss the significance of this research, exploring the relationship between photography, memory, and the evolving role of architects and urban planners. The discussion will feature photographer Barbara Rossi, historian and journalist Katya Knyazeva, and Michele Versaci, Strategy and Proposal Coordinator at Park Associati.
The exhibition The Grey Catalogue is part of Barbara Rossi’s research project The Grey Catalogue supported by Strategia Fotografia 2024, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
The project was developed with the support of Officine Milano.
