An ephemeral installation that explores the potential of reusing second-hand materials to craft meaningful architectural expressions.
As part of the SHIFT 2024 event The Future of Adaptive Architecture hosted by Casa da Arquitectura, Park Associati presented Traces, an ephemeral installation that explores the potential of reusing second-hand materials to craft meaningful architectural expressions. Designed to remain in Casa da Arquitectura's entrance plaza for one month, the installation offers a new accessible public space and invites visitors to engage with the narrative of transformation embedded within the reused materials.
The design process and assembly.
Traces is a textile installation created with reclaimed materials sourced from Casa da Arquitectura’s warehouse. The project reflects our commitment to circular design, demonstrating how discarded materials can take on new life in imaginative and impactful ways.
The collaborative self-build workshop, led by Vincenzo Salierno, Project Leader at Park Associati, underscored the role of community engagement in adaptive reuse. Participants worked together to assemble the installation, translating principles of sustainability and reuse into a tangible, aesthetic experience.
Traces aligns with Park Associati's broader vision for sustainability in architecture, prioritizing the responsible use of resources and the reinvention of existing elements to create resilient, adaptive spaces. By employing materials with histories of their own, the installation offers a lens into the identity of places, inspiring new approaches to design that merge creativity with environmental responsibility.
Partnership
We extend our gratitude to Casa da Arquitectura, Krear and all participants of SHIFT 2024 for their contributions. Together, Traces is an example of how architecture can respond to today’s challenges through thoughtful reuse and collective creativity.
