A new model of adaptable and socially sustainable living
Le Altane di Lambrate is a project that reinterprets contemporary housing through an innovative residential typology. Inspired by the historic Venetian altane, this modular system, developed in collaboration with CCL – Consorzio Cooperative Lavoratori, introduces flexible, sustainable, and customizable living solutions that respond to the evolving demands of urban life.
The defining element of the project is the Altana, an architectural module inspired by traditional Venetian rooftop loggias. Designed as an extension of the domestic space, the Altana creates an additional open-air room that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior. It is conceived as a multifunctional environment—one that can accommodate evolving needs over time, from work and leisure to social gatherings.
Beyond its formal qualities, the Altana introduces a new way of living in a dense urban setting. By activating the facades, the project proposes new layers of inhabitable space, enhancing the interaction between private and communal areas.
One of the core ambitions of Le Altane di Lambrate is to contribute to the debate on accessible housing in Milan. By optimizing spatial layouts and leveraging adaptable architectural solutions, the project seeks to offer high-quality living environments within an economically sustainable framework. The initiative reflects the growing need for affordable housing in Milan, where rising urban costs increasingly impact key workers, young professionals, and diverse social groups.
Integrating shared green areas and communal spaces, the project fosters well-being and social interaction while contributing to the regeneration of the Lambrate district. This approach aligns with international best practices, particularly those seen in Northern Europe, where modular housing strategies have successfully balanced affordability with architectural quality.
Designed to address shifting socio-economic conditions while ensuring accessibility, Le Altane di Lambrate actively involves future residents in the design process. By embracing participatory design, the project fosters a sense of ownership and inclusion, ensuring that living spaces genuinely reflect the needs of their inhabitants.
With this project, Park Associati reaffirms its commitment to designing architecture that is not only formally and technically innovative but also deeply embedded in the dynamics of urban life.
