Stage - a conversation with Sovrappensiero

Can we reflect on water through a bottle cap? Through the research project ABOUT:, the exhibition and the talk explore how an apparently ordinary object can become a tool for questioning our relationship with water. Removed from its most obvious function, the cap becomes a threshold that regulates access, control, measurement, limits and relationships. A reflection on how design can challenge everyday objects through minimal interventions, transforming them from simple functional devices into tools capable of generating new meanings. Sovrappensiero Design Studio, founded in Milan in 2007 by Lorenzo De Rosa and Ernesto Iadevaia, works across industrial design, design research and creative direction, collaborating with companies, institutions and universities. In 2024, the studio launched ABOUT:, an independent research platform that uses thematic open calls to investigate the cultural significance of everyday materials and objects through design experimentation. Selected for the ADI Design Index 2025 in the Theoretical Research category, ABOUT has established itself as one of the most compelling emerging cultural initiatives within the contemporary Italian design scene.
